Process
Review articles
The review articles are written per Commodity Group; for large Commodity Groups the group may be further subdivided.
For every Commodity Group an editorial team is appointed consisting of Editors and Associate Editors. These are generally specialists in that particular Commodity Group. The editorial team establishes the list of species to be treated in that Commodity Group in close consultation with PROTA's General Editors. The editorial team will identify authors to write on the approximately one third of the species that is contracted out as they will be treated following the extended PROTA format. About two thirds of the species receive a treatment in reduced format and are written by the editorial team.
How can you contribute?
Both authors and editors have access to a number of supporting databases to facilitate the writing and editing process. The editorial team edits the draft review article after reception. The General Editors control whether the article conforms to PROTA standards of quality and consistency. Then these drafts are checked for their English and subsequently translated into French. The French draft is again edited by the French translation Editors. Only then the final review article is ready to be published in both English and French. The review articles of a Commodity Group are published in 3 forms:
- an illustrated webdatabase
- a book series
- a CD-Rom series
